> Quick view: Longwan is 25 this year. Its "Promosi Boom Ulang Tahun Ke-25" runs from 1 October to 15 November 2026 at 14 Longwan and Gmart branches, and Guar Chempedak, Kedah, is one of them. The 44-page catalogue is on longwan.com.my, but it hides one digit of every price, so treat it as a shopping list and check the shelf. The one fully stated deal is a free 200g Kersani sambal pack with a 425g tin of Botan sardines or mackerel. SARA still pays for approved items at 13 branches until 31 December.

Pasaraya Longwan is a northern grocery chain that began in 2001 as a clothing shop in Sungai Petani, which is why the 2026 anniversary falls now. Its store locator lists 19 branches: eight in Kedah, five in Perak, three in Penang, two in Kuala Lumpur and one in Selangor. The Guar Chempedak store opened in 2016 in the Guar Utama business complex, in Yan district. It opens daily from 9am to 10pm and has a fresh market section and MyKasih payments.

What is the Longwan 25th anniversary Promosi Boom?

It is Longwan's biggest catalogue of the year. We read all 44 pages on 23 October:

  • Dates: 1 October to 15 November 2026, printed on every page.
  • Branches: 14, shown on the cover. Kedah: Guar Chempedak, Tunku Hosna (Alor Setar), Baling, Gmart Sungai Petani, Kuala Ketil and Kulim. Perak: Seri Iskandar, Parit Buntar, Taiping, Pengkalan and Chemor. Penang: Farlim, Kepala Batas and Bayan Lepas. Farlim appears on the cover but not yet in the website's store locator, so call before you go there.
  • Not on the cover: Longwan Mergong, Longwan Sungai Petani (Jalan Bakar Arang), Seberang Perai Tengah and the three Klang Valley stores (Chow Kit, Wangsa Maju, Sri Muda).
  • What's in it: clothing and school bags, a fresh-produce page ("Pasti Segar! Pasti Murah!"), Century and Apple Lady plasticware, coffee and tea, frozen food, dairy, toiletries, kitchenware and stationery.

The hidden-digit prices. Every price has one digit covered by a bomb icon. Saudi Gold Chicken Popcorn 1kg is printed as "RM1?.99", so it costs somewhere from RM10.99 to RM19.99. Farm's Gold Chicken Frankfurter 300g is "RM2.?9", between RM2.09 and RM2.99. Kawan Roti Canai 5 x 80g is "RM?.49", under RM10. You learn the exact figure only from the shelf tag, so the catalogue tells you *what* is on offer, not exactly how much you save.

The fine print. The footer of every page says purchases are limited to the units shown on the shelf label, per family per day, and the prices are for retail sale only, so no bulk buying for resale. The cover adds that prices may change without notice, items may be swapped for a similar product depending on stock, and Longwan can limit quantities while stock lasts. Longwan takes credit and debit cards, MyDebit and Boost.

The Botan buy-1-free-1

Page 8 is the only deal in the catalogue with nothing hidden. Buy one 425g tin of Cap Botan sardines in tomato sauce or Cap Botan mackerel in tomato sauce, and you get one 200g pack of Kersani Sambal Serbaguna free. The page says it is subject to terms and conditions. Canned fish is an approved SARA category, so the tin can go on your SARA balance and the sambal comes with it.

Frozen food in the catalogue (SARA-eligible)

Frozen chicken products, nuggets and sausages are on the government's SARA list, so these catalogue lines are the ones SARA users should look for on the shelf:

  • Saudi Gold: Karaage Popcorn 1kg, Chicken Popcorn 1kg, Chicken Muruku Hot & Spicy 1kg (each RM1?.99) and Hot & Spicy Fried Chicken 800g (RM1?.49)
  • Farm's Gold: Chicken Nugget Chinuga's 800g (RM?.49) and Chicken Frankfurter 300g (RM2.?9)
  • Ayam Dindings: Tempura Cheese Chicken Nugget 650g and Black Pepper Chicken Nugget 720g (RM1?.99 each), Jumbo Black Pepper Chicken Frank 800g (RM1?.49)
  • Agus Crispy Chicken Nugget 850g (RM10.?9) and Crispy Fried Chicken 850g (RM1?.99)

Jualan Rahmah this weekend

Longwan is also hosting Jualan Rahmah Madani, the Domestic Trade Ministry's (KPDN) low-price essentials sale, on Friday 23 and Saturday 24 October 2026, 9am to 10pm, at two Kedah branches: Longwan Tunku Hosna, Alor Setar and Longwan Baling. The banner says plastic bags are not provided, so bring your own. The previous round, on 26 and 27 September, was at Pengkalan, Seri Iskandar and Taiping in Perak.

Using SARA at Longwan

SARA works in two ways in 2026, and both are paid from your MyKad at the till:

  • SARA Untuk Semua: a one-off RM100, credited on 9 February 2026 to every Malaysian citizen aged 18 and above. Longwan's banner gives 31 December 2026 as the last day to use it.
  • Monthly SARA: for STR 2026 recipients, January to December 2026: RM100 or RM200 a month for eKasih poor and hardcore-poor households, RM50 or RM100 for other STR recipients. Unspent balance carries over.

The store locator, rechecked on 23 October, still tags 13 branches with MyKasih: Kedah: Gmart Sungai Petani, Tunku Hosna, Kulim, Guar Chempedak, Baling and Kuala Ketil. Perak: Seri Iskandar, Taiping, Parit Buntar, Pengkalan and Chemor. Penang: Kepala Batas and Bayan Lepas.

What SARA pays for. There are 15 approved categories: rice, eggs, bread, cooking oil, biscuits, noodles, flour, beverages, seasoning, canned food, personal care, over-the-counter medicine, school supplies, household cleaning and frozen food. Frozen food covers chicken, meat, fish and seafood, nuggets and meatballs, sausages, burgers, frozen vegetables and ready-to-eat frozen meals. Fresh vegetables and fruit are not on the list. Plasticware, clothing and kitchenware from the catalogue are not either.

At the till:

  1. Look for the SARA label on the shelf price tag.
  2. Keep SARA items separate from fresh produce and household goods, and pay for those with cash, a card or an e-wallet.
  3. Show your MyKad. The cashier scans only the approved items.
  4. Check your balance in the MyKasih app (helpline 03-7720 1800, Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.30pm).

The member contest runs until March 2027

Longwan and Gmart's "Kumpul Mata Ganjaran & Menang" runs from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027. Show the Longwan app's member QR code at checkout to collect points; more spending means a better chance. There are 504 prizes: an Umrah package for one (or a RM5,000 voucher), 3 x RM1,000, 80 x RM500, 100 x RM200 and 320 x RM100 vouchers. Longwan has not published how many points each ringgit earns.

Who this page is for

Useful if: you shop at Guar Chempedak or another of the 14 anniversary branches before 15 November, you have SARA balance to spend on canned or frozen food, or you are near Tunku Hosna or Baling this weekend.

Skip it if: you shop at Mergong, Jalan Bakar Arang, Seberang Perai Tengah or a Klang Valley Longwan. Those branches are not on the anniversary cover and do not take SARA.

Earlier this year: Guar Chempedak ran its own branch-only "Promosi Hebat Boom" from 4 to 13 September, with Cili Brand fish balls at RM2.29 and 1kg frozen cockle meat at RM5.99. That flyer has ended.
