> Quick view: Longwan's Guar Chempedak supermarket in Kedah is running a branch-only "Promosi Hebat Boom" until Sunday 13 September 2026. Cili Brand fish balls are RM2.29, a 1kg bag of frozen cockle meat is RM5.99, and cabbage, watermelon and cucumber are RM1.49 a kilo. The branch also takes the government's RM100 SARA credit on MyKad, but only four of the ten flyer items fall inside SARA's approved categories.

Pasaraya Longwan is a northern grocery chain that began in 2001 as a clothing shop in Sungai Petani. Its store locator now lists 19 branches: eight in Kedah, five in Perak, three in Penang, two in Kuala Lumpur and one in Selangor. Longwan says it has held the government's "Kedai Harga Patut" certification several times since 2014. The Guar Chempedak store opened in 2016 in the Guar Utama business complex, in a small town in Yan district, and it opens daily from 9am to 10pm. The locator tags it with a fresh market section and MyKasih payments.

What is on the Guar Chempedak flyer, 4 to 13 September

Longwan's banner reads "Promosi Hebat Boom!!", dated 4 to 13 September 2026, with the line "Hanya di cawangan Guar Chempedak": only at the Guar Chempedak branch. These are the ten items Longwan's homepage lists under that branch and those dates:

  • Cili Brand small fried fish balls, 160g: RM2.29
  • Cili Brand small white fish balls, 160g: RM2.29
  • Cili Brand fried fish cake, 280g: RM3.69
  • Frozen cockle meat (isi kerang IQF, 300/500 grade), about 1kg: RM5.99
  • Sawi panjang: RM1.99/kg
  • Round cabbage (kobis bulat): RM1.49/kg
  • Carrots: RM1.99/kg
  • Green bird's-eye chillies (cili padi hijau): RM7.49/kg
  • Red watermelon: RM1.49/kg
  • Cucumber: RM1.49/kg

Longwan prints only the promo price. There is no "was" price on the banner or on the item cards, so the flyer does not tell you how much you save, and you will have to judge it against what you normally pay. The branch shuts at 10pm tonight, Friday 11 September, so the realistic windows left are Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September.

Three worked baskets

  • A week of vegetables. 1kg each of sawi, cabbage, carrots and cucumber, plus a 3kg watermelon, comes to RM11.43.
  • A steamboat or lok-lok night. Both packs of fish balls, the fish cake and the 1kg bag of cockles come to RM14.26. Add 250g of cili padi, about RM1.87, for the dipping sauce.
  • Everything on the flyer, at those quantities, comes to RM27.56.

Paying with SARA: what counts and what does not

Longwan's banners say its branches accept Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) and MyKasih payments. The SARA Untuk Semua credit is RM100, paid once into the MyKad of every Malaysian citizen aged 18 and above. The government's SARA site gives 9 February 2026 as the credit date, and Longwan's banner dates its use from 9 February to 31 December 2026. You pay at the counter with your MyKad; the cashier checks your status and scans the approved items.

Here is the catch for this flyer. The SARA site lists 15 approved categories: rice, eggs, bread, cooking oil, biscuits, instant noodles, flour, beverages, seasoning, canned food, personal hygiene products, medication, school supplies, household cleaning products and local frozen food. Fresh vegetables and fruit are not on it. So:

  1. The two fish ball packs, the fish cake and the frozen cockles (RM14.26 together) belong to the local frozen food category, provided the till tags them that way.
  2. The six fresh lines (RM13.30 in the full basket above) need cash, a card or an e-wallet.
  3. Ask the cashier to split the basket before scanning. The MyKasih app shows your remaining balance and the approved items.

Longwan's SARA banner names 13 branches that accept it. In Kedah: Gmart Sungai Petani, Tunku Hosna, Kulim, Guar Chempedak, Baling and Kuala Ketil. In Perak: Seri Iskandar, Taiping, Parit Buntar, Pengkalan and Chemor. In Penang: Kepala Batas and Bayan Lepas. The store locator's MyKasih tags match that list exactly. Longwan Mergong in Alor Setar, Longwan Sungai Petani on Jalan Bakar Arang, Seberang Perai Tengah and the three Klang Valley stores carry no MyKasih tag.

The member contest runs until March 2027

Longwan and Gmart run "Kumpul Mata Ganjaran & Menang" from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027. You collect points by showing the Longwan app's member QR code at checkout, and the banner says the more you spend, the better your chance. The prizes:

  • Grand prize: an Umrah package for one person, or a RM5,000 voucher instead
  • 3 x RM1,000 vouchers
  • 80 x RM500 vouchers
  • 100 x RM200 vouchers
  • 320 x RM100 vouchers

That is 504 prizes. The 2025-2026 edition, whose winners Longwan posted on 15 April 2026, had 91: one Umrah package, 10 x RM1,000 and 80 x RM500. This year has more than five times as many winners, but seven fewer RM1,000 prizes. Longwan's app page still says its points guide is "coming soon", so the points earned per ringgit are not published. Members also get "Harga Ahli" member prices, which Longwan has run since 1 June 2025.

Who it suits, and who should skip it

Good for: households in and around Guar Chempedak doing a weekend market run, anyone planning a steamboat this weekend, and SARA holders who still have credit and want frozen staples.

Skip it if: you shop at a different Longwan. These prices are for this branch only, and Tunku Hosna or Gmart Sungai Petani will charge their own. A long drive for RM27 of groceries does not add up either.

Fine print that trips people up

  • One branch only. The banner says so in as many words.
  • Per-kilo pricing. Watermelon is weighed whole, so a 4kg melon is RM5.96, not RM1.49.
  • SARA covers categories, not the flyer. Fresh produce needs another way to pay.
  • SARA is one-off. Longwan's banner gives 31 December 2026 as the last day to use it.
  • Malaysia Day hours. Malaysia Day falls on Wednesday 16 September. Longwan Sungai Petani (Jalan Bakar Arang) is listed as closed every Wednesday and Longwan Mergong every Tuesday, and the locator shows no holiday exception. Guar Chempedak is listed as open daily.
  • No stated stock limit. The Guar Chempedak banner prints none, but Longwan's member-price banners carry a "retail sales only, while stocks last" line, so popular items can run out.
