> Quick view: both MPH mall fairs are over. The Great Eastern Mall sale in KL ended 2 August 2026; the Book & Gift Mega Fair at Alamanda Putrajaya ended 1 September 2026, and MPH posted its "That's a wrap, Alamanda!" sign-off on 3 September. No new fair leg has been announced — MPH's own events calendar shows "no events right now". What is live instead are two nationwide member mechanics: the Gotta Have It! 20% member discount for September 2026, and Phase 2 of the #MPH120 Spend & Win, which opened 1 September and runs to 31 December 2026.

Both fairs have closed — don't make the trip

If you came here for a mall fair, neither leg is running:

  • MPH Great Eastern Mall, Jalan Ampang, KL — storewide markdown up to 70% off with a "Crazy Deals" table from RM10. Ran 22 July – 2 August 2026. Closed.
  • MPH Book & Gift Mega Fair, Concourse Area, Alamanda Shopping Centre, Putrajaya — up to 50% off, selected items from RM5, 15% off all books for members. Ran 21 August – 1 September 2026. Closed, confirmed by MPH's own wrap-up post on 3 September 2026.

Checked on 4 September 2026, the "Upcoming Events" list on MPH's events page is empty — it returns "Sorry, no events right now." The most recent entries there are past events from 2025. MPH has historically announced each fair leg about a week ahead on Facebook, so the realistic move is to watch that channel rather than plan a trip now.

One warning about the fair-only rate: the 15% off all books figure that circulated in August was a *fair-specific* member rate. It is not MPH's standing member discount, and it is gone with the fair. The standing rate is lower — see below.

What's actually live: Gotta Have It!, September 2026

MPH's current homepage campaign is Gotta Have It! — 20% off for members on selected titles, September 2026. The selection is a real, browsable list: the Gotta Have It collection holds 68 titles as at 4 September 2026, refreshed monthly.

The important catch: none of those 68 titles shows a marked-down price online. Every one lists at full price with no strike-through. The 20% is a member benefit applied at checkout, not a shelf markdown — so a non-member browsing the collection sees no discount at all and may conclude the campaign isn't running. It is; you just have to be a member to see it.

Worked examples, using MPH's own listed prices from that collection:

| Title | List price | Member 20% | You save | |---|---|---|---| | Awaken the Giant Within (35th Anniversary Edition) | RM109.90 | RM87.92 | RM21.98 | | The Practice of Not Reacting | RM99.90 | RM79.92 | RM19.98 | | More Days at the Torunka Cafe (UK Edition) | RM69.95 | RM55.96 | RM13.99 | | Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (UK Edition) | RM64.90 | RM51.92 | RM12.98 | | Bookiut (EVSE): The Warung Between Worlds (2026) | RM35.00 | RM28.00 | RM7.00 |

Phase 2 of Spend & Win opened the day the fair closed

The bigger story is the timing. MPH's 120th-anniversary Spend & Win, with total prizes worth up to RM120,000, runs in two phases — Phase 1: 1 June – 31 August 2026, and Phase 2: 1 September – 31 December 2026. Phase 2 opened on the exact day the Alamanda fair closed, so the campaign didn't end; it changed shape.

How to enter, per MPH's own banner:

  1. Become an MPH Explore member (scan the QR code at any outlet, or register online).
  2. Spend RM50 or above in a single receipt at any MPH Bookstores outlet. Entry is then automatic.

The prize pool: 20× "Free Books For A Year" (12 months of reading), 18× luxury getaway stays, and 10× gold coins. Campaign partners are Bestari Wellness Spa & Villas and Atlas by Bank Muamalat.

Note the mechanic is an in-store single-receipt threshold, and it is a prize draw, not a discount — you are not guaranteed anything for your RM50. Treat it as a free rider on a purchase you were making anyway, not a reason to spend.

MPH Explore membership: what it actually costs and gives

Because both live mechanics run through membership, the terms matter. From MPH's own membership page:

| Item | Terms | |---|---| | Membership fee | RM10 | | Standing discount | 10% off all normal-priced items | | Birthday month | 15% off, once during your birthday month | | Gotta Have It! selections | 20% off the monthly selection | | Points | 1 point per RM1 spent; 500 points = RM5 voucher, 1,000 points = RM10 voucher | | Points expiry | Never expire while membership is active | | Where valid | MPHOnline and all MPH Bookstores outlets |

Two pieces of fine print do real work:

  • Discounts are not stackable. The 20% Gotta Have It rate does not combine with the 10% standing rate or the birthday 15% — you get one, the best applicable one.
  • Exclusions: agent-controlled, nett-priced, IT and multimedia items are outside the discounts entirely.

The break-even maths. The RM10 fee pays for itself at RM50 of Gotta Have It spend (20% of RM50 = RM10), or RM100 of normal-priced spend at the standing 10%. That RM50 figure is worth noticing: it is the same threshold that auto-enters you into Spend & Win Phase 2, so a single RM50 in-store receipt as a member covers the membership fee *and* buys a draw entry.

One inconsistency to be aware of: MPH's site-wide announcement bar still invites you to "Sign up for MRewards today for FREE." That page (`/pages/mrewards-membership`) now returns a 404, and the live programme is MPH Explore at RM10. Go by the membership page, not the banner.

Baucar Buku MADANI works on MPH books

Separately, and easy to miss: since 1 July 2026, MPH books can be bought with Baucar Buku MADANI through Book Capital, the marketplace run by Perbadanan Kota Buku under the Ministry of Education. MPH has a seller storefront there. If you hold an unspent voucher, that is the channel to use — it is a separate route from the MPHOnline store and from the member discounts above.

Who this suits — and who should skip

Worth it if you buy more than about RM100 of books a year, or you have a specific title sitting in the September Gotta Have It list. The RM10 membership clears itself on a single RM50 basket at the 20% rate, and everything after that is genuine margin.

Skip it if you were only ever going to make one small purchase, or the book you want is an agent-controlled or nett-priced title — those are excluded, and the membership will not pay back. Also skip if you were holding out for fair-style 50–70% markdowns: those rates are tied to the mall fairs, and there is no announced fair to attend.

Fine print worth knowing

  • The 20% applies only to the current month's Gotta Have It selection; the list is refreshed monthly, so a title in it now may not be next month
  • Discounts are not stackable — one rate applies per item, not several
  • Spend & Win is a draw, and its RM50 threshold is per single receipt, in-store
  • Phase 2 closes 31 December 2026
  • MPH's own `/pages/current-promotions` page is an empty stub; the homepage carousel is where live campaigns actually appear

Catching the next fair

MPH's 2026 circuit has already moved through Subang Parade, Plaza Shah Alam, Sanctuary Mall, Great Eastern Mall and Alamanda. The Alamanda leg has historically taken the late-August slot, so the next legs are likely to surface toward the year-end shopping season — but nothing is announced as at 4 September 2026. Follow MPH Bookstores on Facebook or check the store locator; legs are typically announced about a week out.
