> Quick view: the POPULAR Bookfair at AEON Mall Kulaijaya ended 16 August 2026 and the Big Sale that replaced it ended 31 August 2026. On 10 September 2026 there is no POPULAR bookfair anywhere in Johor. What is still running at the permanent store at Lot G-21 — and at all eleven other Johor outlets — is the Super Holiday Promotion to 16 September and the members' 20% certificate to 27 September.
Two deaths, and neither page came down
This article has now outlived two promotions.
The bookfair ran 4-16 August 2026 at Ground Floor, Centre Court. The Big Sale ran 28-31 August 2026 across 43 selected POPULAR/HARRIS stores, Kulaijaya among them.
Both campaign pages are still online. POPULAR's own /big-sale/ page still loads and still reads "28 - 31 Aug 2026, 43 selected POPULAR/HARRIS bookstores". A live URL is not a live promotion. The page that settles it is the Ongoing Promotions hub, which lists what POPULAR is actually running today — and neither the Kulaijaya fair nor the Big Sale is on it.
Correction: the RM60 purchase-with-purchase did not die on 31 August
We previously filed the 3M Scotch titanium detachable kitchen scissor at RM38.00 nett (usual RM67.50) and the SonicGear SonicGo! 5 portable Bluetooth speaker at RM39.90 nett (usual RM59.90 nett) as Big Sale mechanics that expired with it.
They did not. Both are printed on the Super Holiday Promotion flyer, which runs 28 August to 16 September 2026 at every POPULAR and HARRIS bookstore in Malaysia. The threshold is unchanged: RM60 nett and above, with the purchase sum excluding the price of the PWP item itself, and one unit of each item per customer in a single receipt on the same day.
So the offer we told you to catch before 31 August is, in fact, still catchable in Kulaijaya until 16 September.
Correction: school assessment books are no longer excluded
The Big Sale's 20% specifically excluded Robin, Text and Assessment books, which is why we said a school-list basket got nothing from it.
Super Holiday is built differently. Its flyer prices model papers and assessment titles directly:
- SASBADI Tingkatan 4 Kertas Model Kunci Skor A+ PRA-SPM — usual RM6.90-RM8.90 (West Malaysia) or RM7.50-RM9.90 (East Malaysia), now 10% rebate, 15% for members.
- Kertas Model MPT4 (5-in-1, Year 4 Chinese-stream) — usual RM5.90 (WM) / RM6.50 (EM), now 15% rebate.
- PELANGI Skor A Kertas Model MPT4 English SK/SJKC — now RM5.00 nett, usual RM8.35.
If you skipped POPULAR in late August because of the textbook exclusion, that reason has expired along with the sale that created it.
The one worth queueing for: STAEDTLER Luna at RM7.50
The single sharpest line on the Super Holiday flyer is a STAEDTLER Luna permanent coloured pencils 24L set at RM7.50 nett, against a usual RM15.80. It is capped at the first 10,000 customers nationwide, needs only any purchase, and is limited to one unit per customer in a single receipt on the same day. Two weeks into a three-week campaign, treat the cap as real.
The 20% certificate, and the exclusion list POPULAR's own hub does not mention
The members-only 20% storewide gift certificate on books and stationery runs 28 August to 27 September 2026. You show it at payment with a valid POPULAR Card or e-Card, physically or through the POPULAR MY app, and each member gets one redemption.
Read the certificate artwork, not the summary line. POPULAR's hub describes the POPClub promotion as covering stores and POPULAR ONLINE. The certificate itself says the opposite: it is valid at participating POPULAR and HARRIS bookstores in West and East Malaysia, except POPULAR ONLINE, CD-RAMA, ROBIN, One-2-Buy, items at concessionaire counters and during POPULAR Bookfairs. It also carries four more limits worth knowing before you plan a basket around it:
- No further 10% discount is allowed on top of it.
- Not valid on nett-priced items, on items already under a rebate scheme designated by POPULAR or HARRIS, or on dictionaries.
- Non-transferable, and not valid with any other offer, promotion, privilege card, coupon or voucher.
- Valid 28 August to 27 September 2026 only.
The rebate-scheme exclusion is the one that bites: most of the Super Holiday flyer is rebate-priced, so the certificate is for the rest of the shop, not for stacking on the sale items.
The upgrade nobody announced: 8 of 12 became 12 of 12
This is the part that actually improved for Johor.
POPULAR's store locator lists twelve POPULAR/HARRIS outlets in Johor. The Big Sale artwork named only eight of them, leaving out TOPPEN Shopping Centre, KOMTAR JBCC, Sutera Mall and Segamat Central.
Super Holiday, Comic Carnival 6.0 and the Self-Help Promotion are all stated as all POPULAR / HARRIS bookstores. So the four Johor branches that sat out the late-August sale are back in. The full twelve, as listed on POPULAR's own locator on 10 September 2026:

- HARRIS Bookstore, AEON Mall Tebrau City
- TOPPEN Shopping Centre, Taman Desa Tebrau

Three of those twelve — HARRIS Tebrau City, Paradigm Mall and Mid Valley Southkey — are tagged (Urban Write) in POPULAR's own locator entry. They sit under POPULAR Book Co. and were on the Big Sale list, but if your basket depends on the certificate, confirm at that counter first.
There is no POPULAR bookfair in Johor, and the nearest one is in Pahang
If what you actually wanted was a fair — the trestle tables, the bargain bins, the RM10 voucher — Johor has none. POPULAR's hub lists exactly three live bookfairs on 10 September 2026, and all three are outside the state:
- Kuantan City Mall, Pahang — 11-20 September 2026, Ground Floor Main Concourse, 10am-10pm.
- Aiman Mall, Kuching — 3-28 September 2026, Ground Floor.
- Emart Tabuan Jaya, Kuching — 21 August to 1 November 2026, Ground Floor, G20 and G21.
The Kuantan fair is the only one on the peninsula, and it is a long drive up the east coast from anywhere in Johor. Its terms, from POPULAR's own fair artwork: selected English and Malay books at 20% rebate when you buy 2 or more, a free RM10 promotion voucher on a minimum RM100 nett single receipt, purchase-with-purchase savings of up to 60% on RM60 nett and above, and a free gift with every new or renewed POPULAR Card or e-Card — a tote bag on the 3-year Privilege Card, a PILOT pen on the 1-year card.
Note the arithmetic against the fair Kulaijaya lost: that one gave RM10 in vouchers on RM80 nett. Kuantan's threshold is RM100. Fair terms are not standardised between venues, so a fair is not automatically the better deal.
Which card, and what the sign-up gift is now
The membership gift changed when the Big Sale ended, so ignore the laundry basket and zipper case if you saw them advertised in August.
Under Super Holiday, a new or renewed 3-year POPULAR Privilege Card / e-Card at RM25 comes with a free exclusive POPULAR toothbrush case (one only), and a new 1-year POPULAR Card / e-Card at RM12 comes with a free ZEBRA Sarasa Clip Gel retractable pen (one only). Both need any purchase of RM10 and above, excluding nett-priced items.

POPULAR's locator gives the hours as Sun-Thu 10.00am-10.00pm with a later 10.00am-10.30pm band on Fri, Sun and public-holiday eves. That line lists Sunday twice, in both bands — POPULAR's own wording, unresolved — so if you are making a late Sunday run, call ahead.
Who should skip this
Skip if you shop POPULAR ONLINE: the certificate is explicitly out there, and the Super Holiday in-store nett prices are set for bookstores. Skip if your basket is dictionaries, since they are excluded from the certificate. And skip the long drive to Kuantan on the strength of a fair alone — with all twelve Johor stores now inside the same nationwide campaigns, the marginal gain over your nearest branch is one 20%-on-two-books rebate and a voucher threshold that is RM20 higher than the one Kulaijaya used to run.
One last thing worth knowing if you are in East Malaysia reading this: POPULAR states on the flyer itself that prices differ between Peninsular and East Malaysia bookstores, and that certain items are available at selected bookstores only, while stocks last.
