> Quick view: Sunway Carnival Mall's Merdeka slate is finished - the RM169 redemption, Lacoste's Buy 1 Get 1 Free and five other offers all closed at the end of 31 August. What replaced them, from Friday 4 September 2026, is Moonlit Togetherness (月下相聚), the mall's Mid-Autumn campaign in partnership with UOB: an 18-brand Mid-Autumn Festive Fair at the South Atrium, free weekend workshops at 3pm, and two spend redemptions - RM500 for a Tang Tea RM10 cash voucher, RM950 for a Moonlit Ceramic Holder, both RM100 cheaper for UOB cardmembers. Everything ends Wednesday 23 September, two days before Mid-Autumn Festival itself.

What died on 31 August, and how we know

Sunway Carnival Mall's own promotions listing, read again on 4 September 2026, no longer carries a single one of the Merdeka-period entries. On this mall's site a campaign that is still running keeps its own dated detail page, so the delisting is the proof - not an inference.

Gone as of 1 September:

  • The RM169 Merdeka Redemption (a box of Oriental Kopi Coconut Cookies) - it only ever ran 29-31 August
  • Lacoste, GF-20 - Buy 1 Get 1 Free on selected items, 27-31 August
  • The Body Shop, GF-51 - second selected 50ml EDT for RM69, 21-31 August
  • Tomei, GF-43 - Merdeka Sale on selected jewellery, 21-31 August
  • Chili's, LG-67 - Fried Mozzarella Buy 3 Get 1 Free / Buy 6 Get 2 Free, 19-31 August
  • Mee Hiris China Muslim Restaurant, LG-03 - Braised Chicken with Noodles RM9.90++, 1-31 August
  • Loud Speaker Karaoke, 4F-02&03 - JOM K Kakee membership rates, 3-31 August

And earlier still, the Weekend Buy 1 Free 1 Feast closed on 23 August 2026 with Heytea, iMP'za and Kialai Cakepastry, and has not returned in any form. There is no September edition and no successor with that format.

Moonlit Togetherness: the two redemption tiers

The mall-wide mechanic is now a two-tier spend redemption, live from 4 September and running to 23 September 2026.

  • Tang Tea RM10 Cash Voucher - spend RM500, or RM400 if you are a UOB cardmember
  • Moonlit Ceramic Holder - spend RM950, or RM850 for UOB cardmembers
  • Redeem at the Concierge, Second Floor
  • Maximum two (2) same-day receipts per redemption, and receipts must be dated on the day you redeem
  • Sunway Super App members only, aged 18 and above
  • One redemption per shopper per day, first come first served, while stocks last
  • Tenants, their employees and immediate family are not eligible, and staff may not redeem on a customer's behalf

The blunt comparison: the Merdeka threshold was RM169. The Mid-Autumn entry point is RM500 - close to three times as much for a RM10 voucher. The UOB discount is a flat RM100 at both tiers, which is worth 20% at the lower rung and about 10.5% at the upper one, so it matters far more to the RM500 shopper than to the RM950 one.

The exclusion list - and the one carve-out that changes the maths

Not accepted toward either tier: Parkson receipts, credit card payment slips, receipts from promotional-space and push-cart tenants, trade-in transactions, top-up and reload cards, any gift or cash voucher or card purchase, bill payments of any kind, and money changers.

But read the push-cart clause carefully. The Moonlit Togetherness terms exclude promotional-space and push-cart tenants "except Mid-Autumn Festive Fair Booths". The Merdeka round had no such exception. That single phrase is the most useful line in the terms: mooncakes bought at the fair itself count toward RM500 and RM950, even though the booths are exactly the kind of temporary tenant normally excluded.

Parkson, however, is still excluded - and Parkson is still running its own sale in the same mall, so the easiest RM500 to spend remains the one that will not count.

The Mid-Autumn Festive Fair: 18 brands at the South Atrium

Running the full 4-23 September at the South Atrium. From the mall's own campaign artwork, the line-up is:

Baker's Cottage, Casa Hana (囍月堂), Duria, 一级棒 Durian, Flourlab (面团本室), Gyenn (聚燕氏), Hong Kong Bay (香港香), JDX (九鼎香), Joymom's, Legend of Tea, Leong Yin (梁贤), Oversea (海外天), Tai Thong (大同), The Full Basket (榴满满), Xiao Fu (小福), Yew Chian Haw (游建好), Yijia (壹家) and Yong Sheng (永生).

The date trap worth planning around: the fair closes on Wednesday 23 September, but Mid-Autumn Festival 2026 falls on Friday 25 September. The booths will already be packed away on the festival itself, and Mid-Autumn is not a public holiday in Malaysia, so there is no long weekend to fall back on. If you are buying gift boxes here, the last day is the 23rd.

Free things to do, and every session is a weekend 3pm slot

All at the South Atrium, 3pm:

  • Chinese Tea Brewing Demo - Saturday 5 September
  • Chinese Music Instrument Performance - Sunday 6, Saturday 12 and Saturday 19 September
  • Fragrance Pouch Making Workshop - Sunday 13 September
  • Mini Bamboo Lantern Decorating Workshop - Sunday 20 September

Every date is a Saturday or a Sunday, which makes this an easy add-on to a weekend trip rather than something to take leave for. The mall notes that workshop slots are first come, first served and limited, and that the programme is subject to change without notice.

Lenovo Tech Fest: three days only, 4-6 September

At the BestBuy IT Mall Flagship Store, 2F-03, Friday to Sunday:

  • A free accessory set worth RM398 with selected Lenovo Yoga notebook models - the set is a pair of Lenovo Open-Ear Clip-on Earbuds X50 plus a Lenovo 16-inch Laptop Toploader T210 (ECO)
  • A free Lenovo Blind Box with any in-store device purchase
  • A Counter-Strike 2 challenge on Lenovo Legion machines, with prizes
  • A Lenovo Tab Run point-milestone game unlocking gifts
  • Copilot+ PC demos on Lenovo Yoga, with extra rewards for posting and tagging

It is billed as a back-to-school event and it is over before the Mid-Autumn programme has properly warmed up - if this is your reason to go, it has to be this weekend.

Every tenant offer still live, floor by floor

  • Hooga, 2F-32 - "A Home For Everyone": storewide on regular-priced items, first piece 30% off and second piece 50% off. Ends Wednesday 9 September. The mall's listing dates it from 9 August; Hooga's own poster says 8 August. Either way, the closing date is the same
  • Paris Baguette, GF-53 - Cake & Drink Set from RM25, a cake paired with a handcrafted drink under the Cafe Adagio banner. Ends Wednesday 16 September, which is Malaysia Day and a public holiday
  • BONIA, GF-53A & 55 - "Little Trades, Big Change": trade in a pre-loved bag for a special reward. Ends Sunday 20 September. The mall's text says *any* pre-loved bag; BONIA's own artwork says a pre-loved leather bag, and adds that every trade-in contributes RM10 to the Dignity For Children Foundation. The two first-party sources disagree, so bring leather if you want certainty
  • BananaBro, LG-03A - "Rasa Malaysia": Nasi Lemak with Bbro Fried Chicken paired with Spritzer Sparkling, from RM17.90. Ends Wednesday 30 September
  • Parkson, GF-15, 16, 17 & 18 - Proudly Malaysian Brands Sale 2026 plus All About Batik, up to 50% off selected batik. Ends Wednesday 30 September. Parkson's own artwork is more precise than the mall's summary: the Proudly Malaysian half runs at all Parkson stores nationwide, while the batik half is selected stores only. And Parkson receipts still do not count toward the Moonlit redemptions
  • MEGAN, 1F-K03 - "Warisan Berseri" gift-with-purchase on 916 gold heritage pieces. Ends Wednesday 30 September. The figure the mall's text omits sits on the poster: the gift is an exclusive Areca Tote on a minimum purchase of RM1,500, and it is an M Rewards exclusive, while stocks last

Hooga's 30% + 50% is not the deal it sounds like

The fine print on Hooga's own artwork reads: the discount applies to regular-priced items only, with the lowest-priced item eligible for the 50% off. You do not get to choose which piece takes the bigger cut - the cheaper one does.

Worked example on a RM199 chair and a RM99 lamp:

  • As the rule works: RM199 at 30% off = RM139.30, RM99 at 50% off = RM49.50, total RM188.80 - a saving of RM109.20 on RM298, or about 37%
  • If you could choose: RM199 at 50% = RM99.50, RM99 at 30% = RM69.30, total RM168.80
  • The rule therefore costs you RM20 on this pair

Rule of thumb: the closer the two prices, the less the ordering costs you. Pairing an expensive piece with a cheap one is where it bites hardest - so if you are buying a big item, pair it with the dearest second item you actually want, not the cheapest thing on the shelf.

Is the RM500 redemption worth chasing? A worked example

  • The lower tier returns a RM10 Tang Tea cash voucher for RM500 of spending - 2%, or 2.5% if a UOB card gets you in at RM400
  • Reaching it on mooncakes alone is plausible but not casual. A Tai Thong four-piece combo starts around RM80 on the brand's own store (checked 31 August in our mooncake guide), so RM500 is roughly six gift boxes - a genuine household gifting run, not a single box for the table
  • The advantage over the Merdeka round is real, though: fair booth receipts count, so the mooncakes you were buying anyway are not wasted spend
  • The RM950 tier buys a Moonlit Ceramic Holder whose retail value the mall does not publish. Treat it as a keepsake, not a discount
  • The honest read: this is a thank-you for spending you were already doing. Do not manufacture a RM500 basket for a RM10 voucher. If your Mid-Autumn shopping is one box for the family, buy the box and skip the concierge queue

Standing perks most shoppers miss

  • Free Applecrumby diaper redemption - Sunway Malls runs a free diaper programme with Applecrumby from 16 October 2025 to 15 October 2026, one redemption per member per month, while stocks last. At Sunway Carnival Mall it is claimed through the Sunway Super App (some sister malls use the concierge counter instead)
  • The Sunway Super App gates everything. The old Sunway Malls app has folded into it, and it is what both the Moonlit redemptions and the diaper programme run on. Download it and join before you travel - the path is download the app, tap "Malls", then select "Join Now"

Planning the visit

  • Address: 3068, Jalan Todak, Pusat Bandar Seberang Jaya, 13700 Seberang Jaya, Pulau Pinang. Tel 04-2020 128
  • Opening hours: 10:00am to 10:00pm daily
  • This is mainland Penang, in Seberang Perai - not George Town and not Penang Island. From the island you cross the Penang Bridge; from Butterworth, Perai or Bukit Mertajam it is a short local drive
  • By car: about two minutes from North-South Expressway Exit 163
  • By bus: Rapid Penang route 703 from Penang Sentral stops at the mall. Rapid Penang hotline 04-255 8000
  • Parking: multistorey Zones A and C are RM2 for the first two hours, then RM1 per hour; basement Zone B is RM2 for the first two hours, then RM2 per hour; motorcycles are RM1 per entry in Zone B; a lost ticket is RM30. Valet and outside parking is RM12 Monday to Thursday and RM15 on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and public holidays - and Malaysia Day, Wednesday 16 September, is a public holiday, so budget RM15 that day even though it is a weekday

Who this suits, and who should skip it

Go if you are buying several mooncake gift boxes and live on the Penang mainland - the fair is the one shopping trip where the RM500 threshold is genuinely reachable, and the booth receipts count. Go too if you want a free weekend activity for children: the lantern and fragrance-pouch workshops on 13 and 20 September cost nothing.

Skip it if you were coming for the Merdeka offers - all seven are gone, and nothing in the Mid-Autumn slate replaces a RM169 threshold or a Buy 1 Get 1 Free. Skip the redemption chase entirely if your natural basket is under RM300; the RM10 voucher is not worth the extra RM200.
