Airport Tax in Malaysia Explained: PSC, Departure Levy, the RM1 Regulatory Charge and SST on Your Air Ticket
On an RM120 AirAsia ticket from klia2 to Singapore, RM59 is government and airport charges and another RM18 is fuel surcharge. We read the Malaysia Airports, CAAM and Customs rules on 18 October 2026 to explain each line: the RM11, RM50 or RM73 PSC, the RM8 to RM150 departure levy, the RM1 regulatory charge and 8% SST on domestic fares.
International School Fees in Johor Bahru 2026/27: Seven Published Fee Sheets, From RM13,760 to RM166,800
Most Johor international schools still answer "please contact admissions" when asked about fees. We found seven fee sheets published on schools' own websites and read them on 12 October 2026. REAL Schools in Permas Jaya starts at RM13,760 a year, Invictus and Tenby sit between RM20,000 and RM58,000, and RAFFLES American School and Marlborough College run from RM66,500 to RM166,800, where the 6% service tax applies.

We read the price pages of seven aircond servicing operators in Johor Bahru on 15 September 2026. A normal service on a 1.5HP wall unit runs from RM60 to RM190, but the cheap end only cleans the filter and housing. Chemical wash prices are easier to compare, and two sites that look like rivals share one address.

A new federal regulation quietly took effect on 1 September 2026. P.U. (A) 307, the Tourism Tax (Amendment) Regulations 2026, moves Johor out of Malaysia's Friday-Saturday weekend group for tourism tax administration, so the tourism tax offices there now open 7.30am to 4pm Monday to Friday instead of 8am to 4pm Sunday to Thursday. It is a small change with a long backstory, and it lands on top of a rate order gazetted only nine months ago. We read all four instruments on the Customs Department's own portal and set out what tourism tax is, who actually pays it, who is exempt, and the separate island levy that is not tourism tax at all.
9 International Schools in Penang 2026: Where the RM60,000 Tax Line Falls, and the Year Group That Crosses It
Since 1 July 2025, private and international school fees above RM60,000 per student per academic year carry 6 per cent service tax. In Penang that line does not separate the expensive schools from the affordable ones. It cuts through the middle of individual schools. At Prince of Wales Island International School the Balik Pulau Year 10 fee is RM60,300, which is RM300 over. At Dalat the top grade is RM59,000, which is RM1,000 under. At Stonyhurst the Malaysian rate card tops out at RM59,850, RM150 below the line, while the non-Malaysian card crosses it four year groups earlier.
