> Quick view: the RM79 + free 5kg rice bundle on the Midea MG-GP18B at 99 Speedmart ended on 17 September 2026 and nothing has replaced it. Re-checked on 29 October 2026, 99 Speedmart's live Deepavali catalogue (to 9 November) has no appliance in it. Online, TBM still lists the cooker at RM86.00 — it was RM78.00 on 1 September — but it is now sold out, and Berdaya, Midea's own Malaysian online store, still does not carry it. The cooker stays on 99 Speedmart shelves as a permanent line. Only the bundle price is gone.
What ended, and what replaced it
The offer this page was built around — one Midea MG-GP18B 1.8L conventional rice cooker at RM79.00 with a free 5kg pack of Jasmine Super Import white rice, valued on the poster at RM15.50 — sat on page 12 of 99 Speedmart's 69th Merdeka & 39th Anniversary catalogue, running 21 August to 17 September 2026, Peninsular Malaysia only.
It is over, and nothing has taken its place. Six weeks on, on 29 October 2026, the chain's "In-store promotion and offers" carousel is full again — a 61-card Deepavali catalogue ending 9 November and four 4-for-RM10 cards ending 5 November — but every card is groceries, drinks or toiletries. No Midea card, and no appliance of any kind.
The evidence has been deleted from 99 Speedmart's own site
This matters if you go looking for the old price yourself. 99 Speedmart publishes every promo card as a post whose address ends in the campaign's closing date — 17092026 for this cycle. Of the 147 promotion posts on the site on 20 September — and of the 209 there on 29 October — not one carries that date. The whole 75-card Merdeka catalogue, page 12 included, has been removed, not merely allowed to lapse.
So any page still quoting RM79 is quoting a source that no longer exists. Several deal aggregators were still headlining the campaign as running "Now Till 17 September 2026" when this was checked — a closed campaign, written in the present tense.
What the MG-GP18B actually costs now
Re-checked on 29 October 2026, at the same three retailers this article has tracked since 1 September:
- TBM online: RM86.00, listed down from RM125.00 — the same price as on 20 September, but now sold out. On 1 September it was RM78.00, so the cheapest online price is RM8.00, about 10%, higher than when the bundle was running
- Lionmas: could not be re-read. Its site no longer returned a product listing for the model on 29 October; it showed RM92.00 on 20 September
- Berdaya, Midea's own Malaysian online store: still delisted. A search for "MG-GP" still returns "There is no product that matches the search criteria". It carried the cooker at RM99.00 on 1 September
That reverses this article's original verdict, in hindsight. In early September, RM79 was an ordinary price — a ringgit above TBM's RM78, with the free rice doing all the work. Measured against TBM's RM86, where it has sat since mid-September, RM79 plus RM15.50 of rice would have been worth roughly RM22, not RM14.50. The bundle was better than it looked at the time. It is also gone, which is the only part you can act on.
There are two Midea rice cookers here, not one
Most coverage of this partnership — including the earlier version of this page — treated the 1.8L as *the* rice cooker in the range. It is not. The press release hosted on 99 Speedmart's own website lists two conventional rice cookers: the MG-GP18B (1.8L) and a smaller MG-GP06B (0.6L).
The 0.6L is the one that actually fits the use case the 1.8L kept getting recommended for — a rental unit, a hostel room, a student moving out. It is rated 350–417W against the 1.8L's 780W, and it sells well below the bigger model: RM63.00 at TBM, down from RM89.00, though still out of stock there on 29 October, and roughly RM45 to RM79 across other Malaysian electrical retailers.
If "cheap second cooker" is what brought you here, the MG-GP06B is the more sensible buy — and no Merdeka bundle was ever needed to make it so.
The full Midea range at 99 Speedmart, with model numbers
The press release lists the complete line-up carried at 99 Speedmart outlets, by model:

The range has since grown past that list: 99 Speedmart's own new-product listings now also carry Midea LED bulbs, at RM7.90 for the 9W cool daylight and RM10.50 for the 10W.
Two things to take from this. First, the appliances are a permanent line, not a promotion — the MoU was signed on 29 July 2026 and the formal release issued from Shah Alam on 3 August 2026, putting Midea small appliances into a network of 3,268 outlets as counted on 29 October 2026, up from 3,224 on 20 September. Second, 99 Speedmart does not publish shelf prices, only promo cards. So there is no way to check today's in-store price of the MG-GP18B online. Call the branch.
What is live at 99 Speedmart right now
Checked on the chain's own site on 29 October 2026, Peninsular Malaysia:
- Deepavali catalogue, 61 cards, ends Monday 9 November — the day after Deepavali (Sunday 8 November) and the replacement public holiday in most states. Cooking staples (QBB pure ghee, Kashmir basmathi, Sri Mutiara parboiled rice, Krisanya atta flour, Baba's curry and muruku flour, Ayam Brand santan), drinks (Milo, Horlicks, Coca-Cola, F&N, Fanta, three beers), snacks (Ferrero Rocher, Kinder Bueno, Pocky, Hershey's Kisses) and household items (Dynamo, Top, Glo, Huggies, Kleenex)
- 4-for-RM10 cards, ends 5 November — Yeo's, Apollo cream biscuits, Hwa Tai Marie and Onwards facial tissue
Nothing in either set is an appliance. If you came for a cooker, there is no 99 Speedmart price to chase until the set after 9 November. The separate 99 Speedmart East Malaysia Facebook page, which runs its own campaigns at its own prices, was not re-checked for this update.

Is the cooker still worth buying?
Worth it if you want a plain, cheap cooker and nothing more. At RM86 the MG-GP18B is still an inexpensive 1.8L machine with a stainless steel lid, an aluminium inner pot, auto keep-warm and a 1-year warranty through Midea Malaysia — and buying it at a mini-market a few minutes from home beats an electrical-shop trip across town.
Skip it if you were only ever here for the bundle. The rice was the deal, the rice is gone, and at RM86 — sold out at the cheapest online seller anyway — there is no urgency left. The Deepavali catalogue has no appliance, so waiting costs you nothing.
Buy the smaller one instead if you are cooking for one or two. The MG-GP06B does the same job for roughly RM63 to RM79 and draws less than half the power — which matters more than it used to, with electricity bills rising.
Skip the conventional design altogether if you want fuzzy logic, induction heating, or a non-stick or stainless inner pot. A 780W single-thermostat cooker offers none of them, at any price.
When the next catalogue is due
The two live sets close on 5 November and 9 November 2026. 99 Speedmart posts each new set as the old one runs out — the Deepavali cards went up on 20 October, 20 days ahead of their end date — so the next catalogue should appear around 9-10 November. On the Merdeka precedent an appliance *can* turn up in it, but the October and Deepavali sets carried none, so do not plan a purchase around it.
Fine print, and what could not be verified
- The RM79 bundle is closed. One free 5kg pack per cooker, Peninsular Malaysia only, while stocks last — all of it historical now
- 99 Speedmart publishes promotional prices only. The current over-the-counter price of the MG-GP18B at any branch is not published anywhere and could not be verified for this update
- Stock of the Midea range still varies branch by branch; it is a recent line and the rollout moved outlet by outlet
- The poster printed the model as MGGP18B; Midea's own catalogue writes it MG-GP18B. Same cooker
- TBM's RM86.00 (sold out on 29 October) and Lionmas's RM92.00 (last read 20 September) are online prices and may differ in-store
- Warranty claims go through Midea Malaysia, not 99 Speedmart — a mini-market counter is not a service centre. Midea also runs 18 Midea Brand Stores nationwide, opened over the past year
