Kota Kinabalu's massage scene splits into three price tiers that sit further apart than in most Malaysian cities. City-centre reflexology shops charge around RM60 for an hour of foot massage. Bornean day spas, which build their menus around Kadazan-Dusun and Malay techniques, charge RM100 to RM190. The resort spas along the coast start near RM270 for just half an hour. Knowing which tier you want saves you from paying resort prices for a treatment you could get in town.
We read the menus below on 31 October 2026, from each operator's own booking page or website. Where a place takes bookings through Fresha, we checked that the listing links back to the operator's own pages and that it had recent customer reviews, so you are looking at prices that are actually being charged this month.
How to choose a massage place in Kota Kinabalu
Decide between foot and body. Foot reflexology is done fully clothed in a reclining chair and usually finishes with a few minutes on the shoulders and back. A body massage needs a private room or curtained bed. Oil treatments (aroma, warm oil, Balinese) cost RM40 or so more than the same length of foot massage at the shops below.
Check the time of day. Two of the cheapest deals here are time-locked: Siam Wellness at KK Times Square only gives its early-bird prices from 10am to 2pm, and Shu Wellness's RM48 Happy Hour runs Monday to Thursday between noon and 6pm. If you are in town for a few days, schedule your massage for a weekday afternoon.
Ask what the price includes. Chi at Shangri-La quotes prices with the 10% service charge and 8% SST already added. Most shops on Fresha quote a flat price. If a menu does not say, ask before you book, because 18% on a hotel spa bill is real money.
Think about location. Siam's Kampung Air outlet and Ulu Ulu's Gaya Street branch are a walk from the waterfront hotels. Shu Wellness is out in Kampung Darau on the Inanam side, and Jari Jari is at Tanjung Aru Plaza near the airport, so budget a Grab ride for those.
Read the cancellation rules at resort spas. Chi charges 50% if you cancel within four hours, takes only card or e-wallet, and does not treat anyone under 16.
Where we looked
Besides the seven below, we checked Mandara Spa at Sutera Harbour, which has dropped Magellan Sutera from its Malaysian outlet list. The resort's spa is now Yoyoy Kamphora Spa at both The Magellan and The Pacific, booked by WhatsApp. Yoyoy's chain prices state that they apply to Peninsular Malaysia only, and the Sutera page lists none, so we could not include a price. We also left out Gaya Street budget shops whose prices appear only on reseller sites such as Klook, and a newer solo therapist operating inside Sheraton Kota Kinabalu whose RM350 hour we could not tie to an official channel. Hyatt Regency, Le Méridien and Marriott Kota Kinabalu did not surface an RM spa menu. Ulu Ulu's Aeropod outlet in Tanjung Aru is temporarily closed for an upgrade.
How to pick
For the cheapest honest hour, go to Shu Wellness on a weekday afternoon (RM48) or Siam Wellness at KK Times Square before 2pm (RM55). For a late massage after dinner in the city, Siam Wellness in Kampung Air is open until 3am at RM62 an hour. If you want something you cannot get in KL, book a Bornean treatment at Ulu Ulu on Gaya Street (RM158 an hour) or Jari Jari in Tanjung Aru (RM190). Save Chi at Shangri-La for a special occasion: the setting is a spa village on its own island reached by causeway, and the RM390 hour already includes tax and service charge.
