> Quick view: Sony Malaysia's Moments With Sony Merdeka campaign pays Touch 'n Go eWallet credit, and in one case a free pair of earbuds, on eligible BRAVIA TVs, soundbars, Alpha cameras, headphones and speakers bought between 31 July and 4 October 2026. Register the product on My Sony Rewards by 18 October 2026, upload the receipt, and the credit arrives by email within 90 days. Put a TV and a soundbar on one receipt and both rewards double, to a maximum of RM4,400. Re-read on 8 September 2026: Sony has quietly reissued the terms and rebuilt the headphone and speaker tables. The WH-1000XM5 and WF-1000XM6 rewards have doubled to RM100, three models have dropped out entirely, and the ZV-E10 window has reopened.
Most Merdeka promotions are a price cut you either catch or miss. Sony Malaysia's is a redemption, which is a different animal. You pay the shelf price, then claim money back afterwards by registering the product. That structure is easy to fumble, and the amounts here are large enough that fumbling it is expensive.
We read the campaign page on sony.com.my, then the full terms and conditions PDF that Sony links from it, then checked live prices on Sony Store Online. We re-read all three on 8 September 2026, and it is no longer the campaign we first described. Sony has reissued the terms PDF, now six pages rather than five, and rewritten three tables on the campaign page. Below is what the campaign pays today, model by model, the four ways people lose the reward, and the one place Sony's own two documents now contradict each other.
What changed on 1, 2 and 7 September
None of this was announced. Sony reissued the PDF and edited the campaign page, and if you read a flyer, an aggregator listing or this article in August, four of the numbers you took away are now wrong.
- The RM50 headphone tier closed on 31 August. The WH-1000XM5, WF-1000XM6, WH-ULT900N (ULT Wear), WF-LC900 (LinkBuds) and WH-G910N (INZONE H9 II) earned RM50 only on purchases made between 31 July and 31 August. If you bought one of those in August, you have until 14 September to register it or the RM50 is gone.
- Two of those five came back at double. From 1 September to 4 October the WH-1000XM5 and WF-1000XM6 pay RM100 each, registered by 18 October.
- Three did not come back at all. ULT Wear, LinkBuds and the INZONE H9 II have no live window. Buy one today and there is no redemption on it, even though the campaign is still running and all three are still on the eligible-products table.
- The WF-1000XM5 was added at RM100, for purchases from 1 September to 4 October. It was not in the campaign at all before September.
- ULT Tower 7 (SRS-ULT700) and ULT Tower 5 (SRS-ULT500) were added at RM50 each, but only from 2 September.
- The ZV-E10 came back from the dead on 7 September, and Sony's two documents disagree about whether it did. That one has its own section below.
Two dates govern everything
The campaign's formal name in the terms is the August 2026 Redemption Campaign, run by Sony (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. under the Moments With Sony banner. Everything hangs off two windows:
- Purchase period: 31 July to 4 October 2026
- Registration period: 31 July to 18 October 2026
Buy inside the first, register inside the second, and Sony sends a Touch 'n Go eWallet reload PIN by email, a free gift by post, or both, depending on the model. The terms call these the Purchase Rewards. Sony's campaign page also states that registering on My Sony Rewards extends coverage to up to 24 months of what it calls worry-free protection, which is a reason to register even on a product that carries no cash reward.
The important thing to internalise: this is not money off at the till. The terms say Sony sends the reward "within 90 days from date of the warranty registration". A purchase made in late August may not pay out until late November.
The doubling rule is where the real money sits
Sony splits eligible products into three categories: Category 1 is BRAVIA televisions, Category 2 is BRAVIA Theatre soundbars, and Category 3 is headphones, earbuds, gaming headsets and wireless speakers. Cameras sit in their own block.
The rule that most shoppers miss is in the first page of the terms:
- Category 1 plus Category 2 on a single receipt: the TNG credit doubles for each of the two products
- Category 2 plus a different brand of TV on a single receipt: the TNG credit doubles for the Sony soundbar
Read that second line again. Sony's own terms say that if you buy an LG or Samsung television and a Sony soundbar on the same receipt, the soundbar's reward still doubles. Sony's illustrations in the terms are explicit. The reissued PDF works two of them: an 85-inch BRAVIA 9 II with a BRAVIA Theatre Quad is (RM1,000 + RM200) x 2 = RM2,400, and an LG TV bought with a BRAVIA Theatre Quad earns RM200 times two, which is RM400.
Two limits apply. Only one doubling per category is awarded per receipt, and if you buy more than one eligible TV or soundbar in the same transaction, the doubling attaches to the highest-value TV and the highest-value soundbar only.
What each BRAVIA television pays
The first figure is the reward for the TV on its own. The second is what it becomes when an eligible soundbar is on the same receipt.
- 98-inch BRAVIA 5 (K-98XR50): RM2,000, doubling to RM4,000
- 85-inch BRAVIA 5 (K-85XR50): RM1,000, doubling to RM2,000
- 75-inch BRAVIA 5 (K-75XR50): RM500, doubling to RM1,000
- 85-inch and 75-inch BRAVIA 9 II (K-85XR90M2, K-75XR90M2): RM1,000, doubling to RM2,000
- 98-inch and 75-inch BRAVIA 7 II (K-98XR70M2, K-75XR70M2): RM1,000, doubling to RM2,000
- 65-inch BRAVIA 7 II (K-65XR70M2): RM500, doubling to RM1,000
- 65-inch BRAVIA 8 II (K-65XR80M2): RM1,000, doubling to RM2,000
- 55-inch BRAVIA 8 II (K-55XR80M2): RM500, doubling to RM1,000
- 65-inch and 55-inch BRAVIA 8 (K-65XR80, K-55XR80): RM500, doubling to RM1,000
- 100-inch BRAVIA 3 II (K-100XR30M2): RM1,000, doubling to RM2,000
- 85-inch and 75-inch BRAVIA 3 II (K-85XR30M2, K-75XR30M2): RM300, doubling to RM600
- 75-inch BRAVIA 2 II (K-75S20M2): RM200, doubling to RM400
And the soundbars, single then doubled:
- BRAVIA Theatre Quad (HT-A9M2): RM200, doubling to RM400
- BRAVIA Theatre Trio (HT-A8): RM100, doubling to RM200
- BRAVIA Theatre Bar 9 (HT-A9000), Bar 8 (HT-A8000), Bar 6 (HT-B600) and System 6 (HT-S60): RM100 each, doubling to RM200
Three worked examples in ringgit
A 65-inch BRAVIA 8 with a Theatre Bar 8. Bought on two separate receipts, on two separate days, you redeem RM500 for the TV and RM100 for the soundbar, a total of RM600. Bought together on one receipt, the TV pays RM1,000 and the soundbar RM200, a total of RM1,200. Same products, same shop, same week. Asking the salesperson to ring both up on a single tax invoice is worth RM600.
The maximum. A 98-inch BRAVIA 5 with a BRAVIA Theatre Quad on one receipt is RM4,000 for the television plus RM400 for the soundbar. That is RM4,400, and it is exactly the figure on Sony's own Double Rewards banner, which reads "cashback up to RM4,400" over the line "when you bundle a TV & Soundbar".
Sony's page carries two different maximums, and it is worth knowing which is which before a salesperson quotes you one of them. The main hero banner at the top says up to RM4,000: that is the television's doubled reward on its own, the 98-inch BRAVIA 5's RM2,000 times two. The Double Rewards banner further down says up to RM4,400: that is the same television plus the Theatre Quad's own doubled RM400. Neither figure is wrong, they are counting different things, and the RM400 gap is the soundbar you still have to buy.
Someone who already owns a TV. If you have a perfectly good non-Sony television and only want the audio upgrade, a BRAVIA Theatre Quad alone redeems RM200. Bought on the same receipt as any different-brand TV, it redeems RM400. That is a narrow case, but it is Sony's own published rule and it is worth knowing if a household is replacing a bedroom set at the same time.
Cameras: the calendar matters more than the model
The camera rewards are flat, with no doubling, but two of them are governed by their own sub-windows and this is where the campaign turns into a timing exercise.
- Alpha 7 V (ILCE-7M5 body, ILCE-7M5M kit): RM200
- Alpha 7 III (ILCE-7M3, 7M3K, 7M3M): RM200
- ZV-1F: RM100
- Alpha 7 IV (ILCE-7M4, 7M4K, 7M4M): RM600 if bought between 19 August and 13 September 2026, registered by 27 September. Bought from 14 September to 4 October instead, it falls to RM400, registered by 18 October
- ZV-E10 (body or kit): RM200, on a window that closed on 23 August and reopened on 7 September — see below
The α7 IV is the live one. Its RM600 window closes on Sunday 13 September 2026, five days after this update, and buying on Monday 14 September instead of Sunday 13 September costs RM200 of TNG credit on a camera that is identical in every other respect. The registration deadline moves with it: buy in the RM600 window and you must register by 27 September, not 18 October.
For reference, Sony Store Online's own listings on 8 September had the α7 V kit at RM12,599 from RM12,999, and an α7 IV kit lens bundle with a PGYTECH strap at RM9,539 from RM11,499, both unchanged since our first read. The redemption sits on top of whatever the shelf price happens to be.
The ZV-E10 came back, and Sony's two documents disagree
When we first read this campaign the ZV-E10 was a cautionary tale: its redemption window ran only from 4 to 23 August 2026 and had closed, and the camera was out of stock online. Both of those have changed.
Sony's campaign page now carries a second ZV-E10 row: RM200 on purchases from 7 September to 4 October 2026, registered by 18 October. Sony Store Online agrees. The ZV-E10 is back in stock at RM3,099 from RM3,499, and on 8 September its product page listed "FREE RM200 TNG eWallet" under Gifts.
The terms PDF does not agree. Footnote 6 of the reissued six-page document still reads that the ZV-E10 "is only eligible for rewards if purchased between 4 August 2026 – 23 August 2026, and registered with My Sony Rewards between 4 August 2026 – 6 September 2026". Sony updated everything else in that PDF for the September changes: the WF-1000XM5, the two ULT Towers and the RM100 headphone tier are all in it. This one footnote was left at its August wording.
So two live official sources say the reward exists and the third, the one the campaign page links as its terms, says it does not. The practical answer is not to skip the camera, which is RM3,099 either way. It is to protect yourself: screenshot the campaign page table and the product page gift line on the day you buy, keep the tax invoice, and register immediately rather than waiting for October. Do not spend the RM200 before it lands.
One thing has not changed. The camera sitting next to it is the ZV-E10 II at RM4,541 from RM5,199, and neither that name nor its model code appears anywhere on the eligible list. Ask for the ZV-E10 by model code, not by description.
Headphones, earbuds and speakers: the list Sony rebuilt in September
This is the accessible end of the campaign, and it is the part that changed most. What is live today, 8 September:
- WH-1000XM6, in all six colours: no cash, but a free pair of WF-C510 earbuds posted to you, on the full 31 July to 4 October window
- WH-1000XM5: RM100, on purchases from 1 September to 4 October, registered by 18 October
- WF-1000XM6: RM100, same window
- WF-1000XM5: RM100, same window — a model that was not in the campaign before September
- ULT FIELD 7, ULT FIELD 5 and ULT FIELD 3 speakers: RM50 each, full window
- ULT Tower 7 (SRS-ULT700) and ULT Tower 5 (SRS-ULT500): RM50 each, but only on purchases from 2 September
- ULT FIELD 1 speaker (SRS-ULT10): RM20, full window
And what is no longer live, though all three models are still sold and still sit in the eligible-products table:
- WH-ULT900N (ULT Wear), WF-LC900 (LinkBuds) and WH-G910N (INZONE H9 II) earned RM50 only on purchases made between 31 July and 31 August 2026. There is no September tier for any of them. Bought in August, they must be registered by 14 September; bought today, they redeem nothing.
That last group is the trap in this campaign. All three still appear in the terms PDF's Category 3 table with "50" sitting in the reward column, and only footnote 3, on the following page, tells you the window shut on 31 August. A salesperson reading the table and not the footnote will tell you the reward is live, and they will be reading Sony's own document when they do it.
One naming caution. Sony's terms PDF labels the WF-LC900 as LinkBuds Fit, while the campaign page and Sony Store Online both call the same model number LinkBuds Clip. Go by the model number on the box, not the marketing name.
Stacked against Sony Store Online prices read on 8 September 2026, the WF-1000XM6 has itself come down to RM1,199 from RM1,599, so the new RM100 credit takes it to an effective RM1,099. That is RM100 better than the RM1,199 the same pair worked out to in August, from a price cut and a reward increase landing together. The LinkBuds Clip has fallen to RM699 from RM899, but with its RM50 redemption expired the RM699 is now the whole story.
Where you can buy, and where you cannot
Sony's terms name the eligible channels as all physical Sony Stores in Malaysia and Sony's Authorised Dealers, and then name the exclusions outright: MTT Solutions Sdn Bhd (Maxis), and the airport outlets at KLIA K1 WorldTech Landside, KLIA K1 Satellite, KLIA2 WorldTech Landside (Domestic) and KLIA K2 WorldTech Airside (International). If you were planning to pick up a pair of XM6s on the way to a flight, that purchase does not qualify.
The campaign page separately points shoppers to Sony Store Online, Sony Store outlets, the dealer locator, and to Harvey Norman and Senheng as participating retailers. It also links Sony Store Online's official Shopee and Lazada shopfronts, which sit further still from the "physical Sony Stores" wording in the terms. If you intend to buy through any online channel, keep the tax invoice and confirm eligibility with Sony before you rely on the reward.
One data point in the online store's favour arrived with the September changes. Sony Store Online's own ZV-E10 product page now lists "FREE RM200 TNG eWallet" under Gifts, which is Sony selling this campaign's redemption through the online channel itself. That is not the same as the terms being rewritten, so the advice stands, but it is the strongest signal yet that the small-ticket redemptions do travel through sony.com.my's own store.
The eligible TVs are not sold on Sony's own online store anyway
For the models that pay the most, that tension turns out to be academic. We re-read Sony Store Online's full catalogue on 8 September: 125 products, of which the entire television range is three listings, the X85L (still out of stock), a 65-inch X90L at RM7,299 and a 55-inch X90L at RM6,999, and the only soundbar is the Theatre Bar 5, which has gone up since our first read, from RM1,199 to RM1,299. Not one of those appears on the redemption list, which is built around the newer K-series BRAVIA 2 II, 3 II, 5, 7 II, 8, 8 II and 9 II sets and the Bar 6, Bar 8, Bar 9, Trio, Quad and System 6 soundbars.
The practical consequence is worth stating plainly: the RM4,400 headline cannot be executed on Sony Store Online at all. Every eligible television and every eligible soundbar has to be bought at a physical Sony Store or an authorised dealer, which is also the only counter that can put both on the single tax invoice the doubling rule requires. What the online store does carry is the small end, the cameras, headphones and speakers, and even there the fit is partial: the α7 V kit and the α7 IV bundle are listed, but the a7 III, the ZV-1F and the ULT FIELD speakers are not, while several things that are on sale online, the ILCE-6400, the RX1R III, the INZONE H6 Air and the ULT TOWER 9, are not on the redemption list at all. September's additions widened that mismatch rather than closing it: the newly eligible ULT Tower 7 and Tower 5 are not sold on Sony Store Online either, while the ULT Tower 9AC that is sold there, at RM3,399 from RM3,699, stays ineligible.
The four things that quietly void the reward
- No receipt upload, no doubling. The terms are blunt: customers who fail to upload their receipt during warranty registration on My Sony Rewards will not be eligible for the double TNG credit. Photograph the tax invoice before it goes in a drawer.
- No marketing consent, no reload PIN. Sony's own Useful Tips section on the campaign page asks you to consent to its email marketing in order to receive the Touch 'n Go reload PINs, because they are delivered by email.
- A stale mailing address. Free gifts are posted to the address on your My Sony Rewards profile, and Sony states it is not liable for misdirected delivery caused by an error on the customer's part. Update the profile before you register, not after.
- Missing 18 October. The eligible product must be registered with My Sony Rewards by 18 October 2026. The α7 IV RM600 tier is tighter still, at 27 September.
Two smaller clauses are worth knowing. If you return the product for a refund, Sony reserves the right to withhold the reward or to set its retail value off against the refund. And qualification for the additional rewards is stated to be at Sony's sole discretion, which is standard for campaigns of this size but does mean the arithmetic above is an entitlement on paper rather than a guarantee.
What "up to 24 months worry-free protection" actually buys you
The campaign page pairs the cashback with a third promise, up to 24 months of what it calls worry-free protection when you register on My Sony Rewards, and it is the claim on that page most in need of unpacking. The number is the standard 12-month Malaysian warranty plus an extension, and the size of the extension is published in the My Sony Rewards terms of use rather than on the campaign page. The table there reads:
- Camera and lenses: 12 extra months
- Cinema Line and professional camcorders: 3 extra months
- Portable audio, meaning headphones and wireless speakers: 3 extra months
- Home audio video: 3 extra months
- Xperia phones: 3 extra months
- Car audio: 3 extra months
So "up to 24 months" is a camera buyer's number, and for one group of buyers it is not a number at all. Sony's own promotions hub, one click from the campaign page, states the extension plainly as "**Additional 3 months* for registered products", then footnotes it: "Extended warranty is not applicable for BRAVIA, PlayStation® products & third-party accessories". Read the two pages together and the shopper the RM4,400 headline is aimed at, the BRAVIA buyer, gets no warranty extension at all**. A soundbar sits under Home Audio Video and does get three months. A pair of XM6s sits under Portable Audio and gets three months. A camera gets twelve. Register a BRAVIA for the cash, not for the cover.
Two more registration facts sit in the same terms and neither is mentioned on the campaign page. My Sony Rewards is one membership per person, offered to residents of Malaysia who are 18 or older, or 15 with parental consent, so a teenager buying their own ZV-1F needs a parent involved to claim. And Sony runs an Auto Product Registration service that registers the warranty for you when you buy using a My Sony Rewards voucher or code, processed within 8 days of delivery. Do not assume that covers you here. The campaign's own Useful Tips are explicit that you must upload the purchase receipt when you register the product, and the terms say that failing to upload it costs you the doubled credit. If something was registered automatically, go back into the account and check the receipt is actually attached to it.
Who this is worth planning around, and who should skip it
Worth it: anyone already committed to a large BRAVIA this year. On a 98-inch BRAVIA 5 the doubled RM4,000, plus RM400 for a Theatre Quad, is real money by any measure, and the only behaviour change required is putting both items on one receipt. It is also worth it for anyone eyeing an α7 IV, where buying on or before Sunday 13 September is worth RM200 more than buying on the Monday. And it is now worth it for a WH-1000XM5, WF-1000XM6 or WF-1000XM5 buyer in a way it was not in August, because RM100 is a materially different proposition from RM50 on a pair of earbuds.
Act this week: anyone who bought a Sony pair of headphones in August. The RM50 tier's registration deadline is 14 September, and it applies to models that no longer earn anything on a fresh purchase. That reward is already yours; it just is not paid until you register.
Skip it: anyone buying an ULT Wear, a pair of LinkBuds or an INZONE H9 II today expecting the RM50 that every August write-up promised. There is no live window on those three. Buy them on price alone, and note that the LinkBuds Clip's own shelf price has dropped RM100 since August, which is twice what the expired redemption ever paid.
Wait and see: if the model you want is not on Sony's list, note that Sony Malaysia runs a fresh redemption microsite most months. The campaign archive on the same site shows April, May, June and July 2026 rounds, each with its own model list, so a model missing today may appear in the next round.
Full terms, the complete model tables and the registration link are on Sony Malaysia's campaign page at sony.com.my.
