"From RM99" describes the smallest machine in the house

Aircond servicing is sold in two different units, and the marketing headline almost always quotes the cheaper one.

The first unit is the machine type. Aircon Hero, which publishes the most complete price list we found in the Klang Valley, charges a basic service of RM88 for a wall-mounted unit, RM168 for a cassette or ceiling-exposed unit and RM288 for a ducted, centralised or FCU system. Full chemical service on the same list runs RM198 wall-mounted, RM368 cassette, RM378 ceiling-exposed and RM468 ducted. That is a five-fold spread inside one price list, and it has nothing to do with the brand on the front panel. One caveat on that list: the page states the cassette basic service twice and the two statements do not agree. The comparison table reads RM168, RM148 and RM128, while the summary card underneath it reads RM198, RM168 and RM148 for the same job. Read the figure back to whoever quotes you before the technician is at the door.

The second unit is horsepower. KL Aircond Service publishes a normal service at a flat RM80 from 1.0HP to 3.0HP, then prices its chemical wash by size: RM150 at 1.0HP, RM170 at 1.5HP, RM200 at 2.0HP and 2.5HP, and RM250 at 3.0HP. The cheaper ladder is headed "Full Service Chemical, Non Inverted", so on the operator's own labelling an inverter unit is not covered by those RM150 to RM250 prices at all. A second table on the same page lists RM350 for 2.0HP to 3.0HP with no label, and a line under it reads "2 units = RM560 for full service" without saying which of the two tables it applies to. That matters: two 1.0HP units at the published list price are RM300, so a RM560 bundle would be almost double. Ask which table your unit sits in before agreeing to a package.

So the honest answer to "how much is aircond service in KL" is a question back: how many units, wall-mounted or cassette, normal or chemical, and are you paying for one visit or three.

Volume is the discount nobody asks for

The one lever that reliably moves the price is the number of units done in the same visit. Aircon Hero drops a wall-mounted basic service from RM88 to RM78 each at two units and RM68 each at three or more, and a chemical service from RM198 to RM168 and then RM148. Three units chemically cleaned in one visit is RM444 at the three-unit rate against RM594 if each were billed as a single. The technician is already at your door and the equipment is already unloaded, which is exactly why the third unit is cheaper. If your household services one bedroom at a time through the year, you are paying the single-unit rate every time.

Gas is priced differently again. Aircon Hero publishes a 1.0 to 1.5HP top-up at RM158, RM28 for each additional 0.5HP and RM48 for each additional 1HP, then a separate RM2.50 per psi for a straight top-up. Tai Seng publishes a RM90 to RM150 band for a gas refill. A unit that needs gas every year does not have a gas problem, it has a leak, and a top-up without a leak test is money spent on refrigerant that will be outside your house by the next monsoon.

The manufacturer publishes a price after all, and it is not the expensive one

Most aircond price hunting in the Klang Valley starts from an assumption: the brand's own service is the expensive option and the independents are the cheap one. On Daikin's published numbers, that is backwards.

Daikin Malaysia sells cleaning directly under the name Go Clean, with a full rate card on its own site. A Go Clean Basic on a wall-mounted unit is RM140 for 1.0 to 1.5HP and RM190 for 2.0 to 3.0HP, covering the indoor unit only across five inspection points, with the evaporator coil washed using chemical solution. Go Clean Pro adds the outdoor unit and ten inspection points at RM190 and RM235. Go Clean Aroma is Pro plus a certified alkaline solution at RM209 and RM259. Ceiling cassettes run RM265 to RM380 on Basic, RM320 to RM440 on Pro and RM349 to RM479 on Aroma.

Now put that beside the independents on this page. Aircon Hero's single-unit chemical wash on a wall unit is RM198; Daikin's Go Clean Pro, which includes the outdoor condenser, is RM190. KL Aircond Service's chemical wash on a 2.0HP unit is RM200; Go Clean Pro at that size is RM235 and Go Clean Basic is RM190. The manufacturer is not the outlier the headline prices imply.

There is a bundle as well. The Value Pack Combo is three Go Clean Pro services at one address: wall-mounted units 1.0 to 3.0HP at RM499, reduced from RM699; a mix combo limited to one cassette unit, 1.0 to 3.5HP, at RM695 from RM800; and an all-cassette combo at RM999 from RM1,260. Pricing is fixed, split units only, not valid on VRV or multi-split systems, and promo codes do not apply. Three wall units at RM499 is RM166 each against Aircon Hero's three-unit chemical rate of RM148 each, so the independent still wins a straight three-unit wash, but by RM55 rather than by the gulf most people assume.

Three conditions decide whether that is usable for you. Booking is app-only: Daikin's own FAQ states the Go Clean service cannot be booked any way other than through the GoDaikin app. The workmanship warranty is 60 days for a re-service, double the one month Aircon Hero publishes. And gas is not included - Go Clean does not top up refrigerant, so a unit that is low needs a separate job somewhere else. Coverage is residential wall-mounted and ceiling-cassette units only, and Daikin excludes its Urusara model.

Four websites, two phone numbers

This piece started as a straight price comparison and turned into something else on the third tab.

Four domains that rank on the first page for Klang Valley aircond searches carry near-identical pages: the same "From RM99" headline, the same claim to have been operating since 2010 or 2012, the same service-area lists, and the same price points repeating across them (RM99, RM160, RM250, RM88, RM80, RM130). Then the contact details line up:

  • acservice.my (listing a Seri Kembangan address) and acfix.my (listing a Subang Jaya address) both publish the mobile number 017-534 7256.
  • aircondcare.my (listing a Petaling Jaya address) and kedaiaircond.my (listing a Subang Jaya address) both publish the mobile number 017-768 8702.

None of the four publishes an SSM company registration number anywhere on the pages we read. ACFix goes one step further and shows two different numbers on the same homepage: 017-534 7256 in the top bar and 017-873 0408 on its call button.

None of this proves anything unlawful. Brands do run multiple domains, and a small operator is not obliged to publish its registration number on a homepage. But it does mean that picking "a different company" from that first page of results may put you through to the same phone, and that the reviews you read about one of those names may not describe the crew that turns up.

What a real company publishes about itself

Compare that with what the established operators put on their own contact pages.

Loong Hing Air-Cond Sdn Bhd publishes its registration number 670723-U, a head office at 1602 Jalan E3/6, Taman Ehsan, Kepong, a branch at No. 25-G Jalan Pulau Lumut P, Alam Budiman, Shah Alam, four landlines and a company email. Tai Seng Air-Cond (Klang) Sdn Bhd publishes a shop address in Bandar Tropicana Aman, a 03 landline, its status as a Daikin authorised dealer, CIDB certification and the line that its technical teams are qualified for JTM (ACCT). Daikin Malaysia Sales & Service Sdn Bhd publishes 198301014326 (109719-M), a Petaling Jaya customer care centre and a call centre open Monday to Saturday, 8am to 8pm.

Notice the trade-off, and its one exception. Among the independents, the operators with the most verifiable identity publish the least pricing, and the operators with the most detailed pricing publish the least identity. Aircon Hero states 20 years of experience and more than 70,000 customers, and its footer names Aircon Hero Sdn Bhd, but the site carries no registration number and no address - only a mobile number. That is not disqualifying, but it is worth knowing which kind of company you are calling. Daikin is the exception that breaks the pattern: registration number, care centre, call centre and a published rate card, just not on the pages where you would look for it.

How to pick

1. Count the units and the types before you call. Four wall-mounted units is a different job from one cassette. Ask for the per-unit rate at your actual count, not the headline.

2. Ask what "chemical" includes. A full chemical service should mean the indoor coil and blower are washed with chemical, not a rinse of the filter. Ask whether the outdoor condenser is included, whether the unit is dismantled, and whether the drainage line is flushed. Two quotes at the same ringgit figure can be different jobs.

3. Ask for the warranty in writing. Aircon Hero publishes a one-month warranty on its full chemical service. Most of the others publish nothing. One month is short, but a published month beats an unpublished promise.

4. Check the identity before the deposit. Ask for the company name exactly as registered and search it on the SSM e-Search service. A company that will not give you a registered name for a RM200 job is telling you something.

5. Keep gas separate from cleaning. If a technician says your unit needs gas during a routine wash, ask for the pressure reading before and after and for the leak to be identified. Gas is priced per psi at some operators for exactly this reason.

6. For anything in warranty, call the brand first - and price it while you are there. Daikin runs its own care centre and call centre, and warranty registration sits on the manufacturer's site. An in-warranty fault handled by an unrelated contractor is the most expensive way to save RM80. Do not assume the brand is dearer for a plain wash either: Go Clean Basic on a 1.0 to 1.5HP wall unit is RM140, below every single-unit chemical wash published by the independents on this page.

7. Diarise it twice a year. Daikin's own guidance is a service every six months. Two Go Clean Basic visits a year on one 1.0HP wall unit is RM280; the same two visits at Aircon Hero's single-unit chemical rate is RM396. Booking three units into one visit is what closes that gap, whichever operator you use.
