> Quick view: Toys“R”Us Malaysia's Merdeka Deals run from 11 August to 30 September 2026 at all 42 stores and online. We pulled the entire campaign category, all 1,439 items, and priced it. The median discount is 30.2%. Only 200 items reach 50% off. Ninety-eight items inside the sale are not discounted at all. And the 151 items that need no Star Card are cut deeper than the 1,190 that do.

What the sale actually is

Merdeka Deals is Toys“R”Us Malaysia's long August-to-September campaign, and the dates are printed on the cover of its own catalogue: 11 August to 30 September 2026, with the line "Exclusive for Star Card Members" set above the logo. It runs at every Toys“R”Us store in the country and on toysrus.com.my, and the campaign has its own landing page at /promotions/merdeka-deals-2026/.

On 7 September 2026 that landing page reported 1,439 products. For comparison, the site's whole Promotions section held 2,496, so Merdeka Deals was a little over half of everything Toys“R”Us had on offer.

Re-checked 9 September 2026. The campaign is still live and the landing page now reports 1,438 products, so the range itself has barely moved. What has moved is everything around it: the site's whole Promotions section has collapsed from 2,496 to 1,562, a drop of 934 items in two days. Merdeka Deals is no longer half the sale, it is now 92% of it. Whatever else Toys“R”Us was discounting at the start of the month has ended, which makes this campaign effectively the only sale in the shop until it closes on 30 September.

We took the full listing, all 1,439 records with their struck-through "was" prices and their sale prices, and worked out where the discounts really sit. Here is the ladder.

  • 10% off or more: 1,325 items, 92.1% of the range
  • 20% off or more: 1,088 items, 75.6%
  • 30% off or more: 701 items, 48.7%
  • 40% off or more: 412 items, 28.6%
  • 50% off or more: 200 items, 13.9%
  • 60% off or more: 67 items, 4.7%
  • 70% off or more: 34 items, 2.4%

The median is 30.2% and the mean is 31.7%. So the honest summary is that this is a 30%-off sale with a thin, genuinely deep tail. The deepest single cut we found was a Creation Nation Creation Dough Essential Tub in purple, RM6.99 down to RM1.50, which is 79% off. Behind it sit a Creation Nation DIY No-Sew Puppy Cushion at RM19.50 from RM72.99 and a J'adore Magnetic Alphabet and Number Counting Set at RM29.50 from RM109.99, both 73%.

The badge split nobody mentions

Every discounted tile in the campaign carries one of two labels, and they behave differently.

"Members sale price" sits on 1,190 items. That is the Star Card price, and it is the bulk of the sale. Median discount: 28.3%.

"Reduced" sits on 151 items. These carry no members badge at all. Median discount: 42.3%.

No item carries both. The plain markdowns are cut fourteen percentage points deeper than the card prices, which is the opposite of what a members-exclusive campaign leads you to expect. The deepest reduced lines when we looked were an Eolo Bibi-Chibi's single-pack blind box at RM10 from RM31.95, the five-piece Besties pack at RM35 from RM109.95, and a run of Honkai: Star Rail acrylic stands at RM34.99 from RM91.95.

Then there is the third group. Ninety-eight items sit inside the Merdeka Deals category with no struck-through price and no discount whatsoever. Fifty-three of them are tagged "new", eleven are tagged "exclusive", one is "just in" and thirty-three carry no badge at all. They include some of the most expensive things in the campaign: a Paw Patrol The Dino Movie Dino Mobile Headquarters at RM399.90, LEGO Icons Ferrari F2004 and Michael Schumacher 11375 at RM399.90, a Paw Patrol Megasaurus Dino Vehicle at RM349.90 and both Tamagotchi Paradise colourways at RM259.90. Being inside the sale page is not the same as being on sale.

R Deals: one price, very different savings

The catalogue's back cover is given over to a block headed "R DEALS! REDEEM AT RM59.90". The catalogue counts thirteen items there, all at the same flat RM59.90, and it helpfully prints its own SAVE figure and original price beside each one. Those figures are not the same. Here are the twelve we could match to a printed original:

  • Saves RM10.09, original RM69.99: Lulu the Piggy Beach Party blind box
  • Saves RM15.09, original RM74.99: Container Playset, Pop-Up Toaster Breakfast Set, The Ocean blind box
  • Saves RM20.09, original RM79.99: Gameboy Light V2, Pac-Man Arcade Air Hockey, Robot Battle, Toy Story DIY Twister Shake, Twist-A-Pal sensory toy, 3-in-1 Magic Pot
  • Saves RM30.09, original RM89.99: R/C Motorbike, Foam Mega Blaster

A flat price is not a flat discount. At RM59.90 the Lulu the Piggy blind box is a 14% cut and the R/C Motorbike is a 33% cut, for the same money. If you are buying one thing off this list, buy from the bottom of the table.

The live R Deals list, re-checked 9 September

The R Deals sub-category has also moved. It now sits at /promotions/2026-merdeka-r-deals/ and holds 12 items, not the thirteen the catalogue's back cover prints, and the old address returns a 410. Here is every item in it on 9 September 2026, with the price the website strikes through and what the flat RM59.90 actually saves you:

  • Lulu The Piggy Beach Party Series blind box — was RM69.99, 14% off
  • LuLu the Piggy Animal Party Series blind box — was RM74.99, 20% off
  • Lulu The Piggy Ocean Series blind box — was RM74.99, 20% off
  • playpop Spaceship Battle — was RM79.99, 25% off
  • Toy Story DIY Twister Shake Painting Flipbook Set — was RM79.99, 25% off
  • Baby Einstein Twist-A-Pal Cal Sensory Toy — was RM79.99, 25% off
  • playpop Container Playset — was RM89.99, 33% off
  • My Story Foam Mega Blaster (assorted) — was RM89.99, 33% off
  • playpop Radio-Controlled Motorbike — was RM89.99, 33% off
  • Paladone Game Boy Light — was RM105.95, 43% off
  • Winfun 3-In-1 Magic Pot — was RM105.95, 43% off
  • playpop Pop-Up Toaster Breakfast Set — was RM107.95, 44% off

Same RM59.90 at the top and the bottom of that list, and a RM38.05 difference in what you get for it. Note also what is no longer there: the Pac-Man Arcade Air Hockey set that the catalogue prints in the RM79.99 group has dropped out of the online category, and the LuLu the Piggy Animal Party blind box has appeared in its place.

The two "before" prices problem

Here is the part worth slowing down for. On several R Deals items, the price Toys“R”Us strikes through online is higher than the original price it prints in its own catalogue, for the identical SKU.

The Paladone Game Boy Light is item 945525 on both surfaces. The catalogue prints "Orig: RM79.99" and "SAVE RM20.09". The product page on toysrus.com.my strikes through RM105.95. Both sell it at RM59.90.

The playpop Pop-Up Toaster Breakfast Set is item 947458 on both surfaces. The catalogue prints "Orig: RM74.99" and "SAVE RM15.09". The product page strikes through RM107.95. Both sell it at RM59.90.

Same retailer, same campaign, same stock number, two different reference prices. The sale price is real and identical either way, but the discount you appear to be getting is 20% in print and 45% on screen. Treat the catalogue's printed original as the conservative number and judge the deal against that.

On 9 September we lined the full online list up against the catalogue, and it is four items, not two. Two more come apart the same way. The Winfun 3-In-1 Magic Pot is printed in the catalogue's RM79.99 group with a SAVE RM20.09 figure, but the website strikes through RM105.95 — the identical gap to the Game Boy Light. And the playpop Container Playset is printed in the RM74.99 group, saving RM15.09, while the website strikes through RM89.99.

So a third of the R Deals table carries a bigger "before" price online than the retailer prints on paper for the same toy. The pattern is consistent in one direction: the online reference price is never lower than the catalogue's. Nothing here is mispriced at the till — every one of these still rings up at RM59.90 — but the saving on the shelf edge and the saving on the screen are two different numbers, and the paper one is the one to trust.

East Malaysia pays more, and the website does not say so

The catalogue prints a second price on some lines, tagged (EM). The fine print on the back cover spells it out: "Certain items in this catalogue are available at selected stores and may not be available in East Malaysia stores. Prices may differ in East Malaysia. (EM) East Malaysia Pricing."

Two examples from page 3 of the catalogue:

  • Hot Wheels City Shark Beach: RM169.50 in Peninsular Malaysia, RM186.50 (EM). The original prices differ too, RM199.90 against RM216.90.
  • Spider-Man SPD Actionverse Figure with Gear: RM59.90 in Peninsular Malaysia, RM62.90 (EM).

The website's product grid shows one price, the Peninsular one. So a shopper in Kota Kinabalu or Kuching reading toysrus.com.my is looking at a number their local store will not ring up. That is a RM17 gap on the Hot Wheels set. Toys“R”Us has four stores in East Malaysia (IMAGO in Kota Kinabalu, AEON Kuching, The Spring in Kuching and Bintang Plaza in Miri), so this affects a real slice of the country.

LEGO is a flat 20%, and F1 is excluded

Twenty-one LEGO lines sit in the Merdeka category. Sixteen of them are cut by a uniform 20% at the members price:

  • Gabby's Dollhouse 10788: RM399 to RM319.50
  • Classic Large Creative Brick Box 10698: RM229.90 to RM183.50
  • DUPLO 3-in-1 Creative Ramps with Vehicles 10478: RM329.90 to RM263.50
  • DUPLO Brick Box 10913 and DUPLO Fire Truck 10477: RM139.90 to RM111.50
  • Classic Creative Dinosaurs 11041: RM149.90 to RM119.50

The other five are at full list, and they are all Formula 1: Speed Champions Ferrari SF-24 and McLaren MCL38 at RM129.90, the Audi R26 at RM119.90, City F1 Pit Stop at RM144.90 and Icons Ferrari F2004 11375 at RM399.90. If you were waiting for the F1 sets to move in this campaign, they are not going to.

The free LEGO Bluey set, and the RM149 trap

Running alongside Merdeka Deals is a gift-with-purchase the campaign page does not mention. The homepage banner states it plainly: a free LEGO Bluey Tea Party (30687), stock number 18875, with a minimum spend of RM149 on any LEGO DUPLO and LEGO Bluey playsets, from 8 August to 13 September 2026.

Note the end date. This one closes on 13 September, seventeen days before Merdeka Deals does. If the free set is what you want, this is a this-week decision, not an end-of-month one.

Still live on 9 September 2026. We went back to the homepage carousel and read the banner artwork itself rather than the caption: it prints "FREE LEGO Bluey Tea Party (30687) (SKN 18875) with a minimum spend of RM149 on any LEGO DUPLO and LEGO Bluey playsets", dated 8 August – 13 September 2026. Every figure above is confirmed. That leaves four days to claim it, against three more weeks on the rest of the sale — so if you are planning one trip for both, make it this week, not the last weekend of the month.

There is a wrinkle. Eight LEGO DUPLO lines are in the Merdeka category, and the 20% cut moves exactly one of them across the RM149 line. The LEGO Alphabet Truck 10421 lists at RM179.90, which clears the threshold comfortably, but the Merdeka member price is RM143.50, which is RM5.50 short of it. The banner does not say whether RM149 is measured before or after the discount. If you are buying that one set specifically for the free gift, ask at the counter or add something small, because a RM5.50 gap decides whether you walk out with a free LEGO set.

Everything else in the DUPLO range is either safely above the line after the discount (Spidey Webquarters 10464 and Animal Building Game 10472 at RM175.50, Creative Ramps 10478 at RM263.50, Discovery Forest 10480 at RM279.50) or below RM149 even at list, in which case you need a second item regardless.

Is the Star Card worth taking out for this?

The card is what unlocks 1,190 of the 1,439 prices, so for this sale the answer is effectively yes if you are buying anything at all. Toys“R”Us's own Star Card page sets out what it does:

  • Points: RM1 spent equals 1 Star Point, and 400 Star Points redeem RM10 in Star Cash. That works out to 2.5% back.
  • Prices: member-exclusive pricing on selected products, which is the entire "members sale price" tier described above.
  • Returns: a 21-day exchange and returns policy for Star Card members.
  • Extras: invitations to member events and discounts with partner merchants.

The sign-up route the site points to is the Toys“R”Us app, which it says makes you a member instantly. Do that before you queue rather than at the till.

Where you can actually go

The store locator returned 42 Toys“R”Us stores in Malaysia when we ran it. They are heavily weighted to the middle of the country: 14 in Kuala Lumpur, 11 in Selangor and one in Putrajaya, which is 26 of the 42 inside the Klang Valley. Beyond that there are four in Johor, four in Pulau Pinang, three in Sarawak, and one each in Negeri Sembilan (Palm Mall, Seremban), Pahang (East Coast Mall, Kuantan), Kelantan (AEON Kota Bharu), Kedah (Aman Central, Alor Setar) and Sabah (IMAGO, Kota Kinabalu).

There is no Toys“R”Us store in Melaka, Perak, Perlis, Terengganu or Labuan. If you live in Ipoh, Melaka town, Kuala Terengganu or Kangar, this sale is an online sale, and the EM pricing note does not apply to you either since you are on the Peninsular price list.

Who should skip it

Skip it if you are shopping for a brand-new release. The 98 undiscounted items skew heavily to new arrivals, so the Paw Patrol Dino Movie range, the Tamagotchi Paradise units and the LEGO F1 sets are at full price and will stay there. Skip it if you had 50% in your head as the going rate, because only one item in seven gets there. And skip the R Deals table's cheaper lines, because RM59.90 for something that normally sells at RM69.99 is a RM10 saving dressed up as an event.

Go if you are stocking up on craft, dough, blind boxes and playpop own-brand items, where the deep tail lives, or if you want LEGO Classic or DUPLO at a clean, predictable 20%.

Fine print that catches people

The catalogue's back cover carries the full terms. The ones that matter in a shop:

  • Prices are verified correct at the time of printing and are subject to change without notice.
  • Toys“R”Us reserves the right to replace an item with others of equal value based on stock availability.
  • It reserves the right to limit quantities on all items.
  • All items and gifts are available while stocks last, and free-gift allocation varies by store. A store running out of the LEGO Bluey Tea Party sets is a normal outcome, not an error.
  • A damaged free gift is not refundable or exchangeable for cash.
  • Certain items are available at selected stores only and may not be available in East Malaysia stores.

The catalogue is published by Toys“R”Us (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (165401-A) of Shah Alam, Selangor.

Sources

Everything above was read from Toys“R”Us Malaysia's own properties. The item ladder, the badge split and the catalogue figures were pulled on 7 September 2026: the campaign landing page at toysrus.com.my/promotions/merdeka-deals-2026, the full 1,439-item product listing behind it, the individual product pages for stock numbers 945525 and 947458, the 40-page Merdeka 2026 Catalogue, the Star Card page and the store locator.

The prices, counts and dates were re-verified on 9 September 2026 against the same landing page (1,438 items), the Promotions section (1,562 items), the store locator (42 stores) and the homepage LEGO DUPLO gift banner artwork. Note that the campaign's two sub-categories have been re-addressed since publication: R Deals and Top Toys both moved, and the original addresses under /promotions/merdeka-deals-2026/ now return HTTP 410.
