> Quick view: for two days only, 27 and 28 October 2026, Sushi King's restaurants in Sabah and Sarawak drop the usual two-piece plate and sell every sushi plate as one piece for RM1.90. There are 36 varieties, miso soup is RM1 off, and you just walk in: no reservations, no membership needed, dine-in only. It is an East Malaysia exclusive, so it is the region's answer to the members-only RM3.50 Bonanza running in West Malaysia.

What the deal is
A normal Sushi King kaiten plate carries two pieces of the same sushi. For this campaign, which Sushi King calls "The Ultimate 1-Piece Challenge", the restaurants split that rule: each plate holds one piece, and every sushi plate costs RM1.90, whatever its usual colour or price. The campaign visual promises 36 varieties to pick from, from salmon and scallop nigiri to ebi tempura sushi.
According to Sushi King's terms page for the promotion:
- All sushi plates are RM1.90 per plate, before SST and service charge.
- Miso soup is RM1 off its normal price.
- Beverages are full price.
- Valid for dine-in only at all Sushi King restaurants in East Malaysia, excluding Sushi King Kiosks.
- Reservations are not allowed.
- Takeaway and delivery are limited to selected items.
Where you can use it
Sushi King's outlet list shows 9 locations in Sabah and 14 in Sarawak. Imago in Kota Kinabalu is a kiosk, so it is out.
- Kota Kinabalu and Penampang: Suria Sabah, Centre Point, City Mall, 1 Borneo, ITCC Penampang
- Rest of Sabah: Sandakan, Tawau, Keningau
- Kuching and Samarahan: The Spring, Vivacity Megamall, Pines Square, AEON Kuching, Matang, The Summer Mall
- Sibu: Sibu outlet, Star Mega Mall
- Bintulu: The Spring Bintulu, Meridian Central
- Miri: Permaisuri Imperial City Mall, Bintang Megamall, Permy Mall
- Also listed: Boulevard
Sushi King has run some kiosk counters inside malls, and Suria Sabah has appeared as a kiosk format in the past. If that is your nearest branch, call ahead to check that it has a belt and seating.
How to make the most of it
- Go off-peak. No reservations means queues at lunch and dinner, especially at KK and Kuching malls. Both days are weekdays, so 3pm to 5pm is your best window.
- Order the plates you normally skip. At RM1.90 a piece, the premium plates are where the saving is biggest, because they drop to the same price as the basics.
- Use the single pieces to explore. One piece per plate lets kids and first-timers taste more of the 36 varieties without leaving half a plate.
- Keep hot dishes separate in your head. Ramen, donburi, bento and drinks are not in the promotion and cost their normal price.
Worked examples
Every figure below adds the 10% service charge and 6% service tax, which together add about 16.6% to the menu price.
- Solo lunch, 8 plates: 8 x RM1.90 = RM15.20, about RM17.72 on the bill.
- A couple sharing 20 plates: RM38, about RM44.31.
- A family of four trying all 36 varieties once: RM68.40, about RM79.75, before drinks and miso soup.
For comparison, a standard red plate in West Malaysia is RM5 before charges for two pieces, or RM2.50 a piece. Sushi King does not publish its East Malaysia plate prices online, and its East Malaysia set meals cost RM1 more than the West Malaysia ones. So RM1.90 a piece is very likely cheaper than any normal plate in Sabah or Sarawak, and much cheaper on the dearer colours. The one thing you give up is the second piece: if you only ever eat two pieces of a cheap basic plate, the gain is smaller.
Who it suits, and who should skip it
It suits families with young children, sushi lovers who want to try many items in one sitting, and office groups going out on a weekday lunch. It also suits anyone in East Malaysia who has watched West Malaysia get Sushi King promos that excluded Sabah and Sarawak.
Skip it if you mainly order ramen, donburi or bento, which are not discounted, or if you need a guaranteed table for a large group.
The fine print that trips people up
- Taxes are extra. RM1.90 becomes about RM2.22 once the service charge and tax are added.
- No stacking. You cannot combine it with the members' 20% Happy Hour or other vouchers. The only exceptions are the Sushi King Cash Voucher and Fan Club Voucher.
- No Smile Points on promo plates. You only earn and redeem points on normal-price items such as drinks and hot dishes.
- Takeaway is limited. Do not plan to buy 30 pieces to go, because only selected items are available for takeaway and delivery.
- Sushi King can change the terms without notice. Check the official promotion page on the morning you go.
